Father’s Day Sunday September 4

Father’s Day is this weekend so there’s still time to whip up a gift for Dad. If he is a handyman Dad, what about a nail pouch? Or if he has a comfy chair in his ‘Man Cave’ stitch a new cushion or even renovate a footstool. Or perhaps a drawstring bag or a cover for one of his most precious tools. For a Masterchef Dad, what about an apron or fun oven mitt? For a TopGear Dad, a bag to keep all his car detailing products and a voucher for a complimentary car wash! Whatever project you choose it’s sure to be special to him because it has been made by you!

Kaffe Fassett, well known designer of patchwork, needlepoint and knitting, says travel is his main inspiration. Take a look at this video clip with incredibly beautiful images to get an insight into the way his travels to new places excite the creative juices. The Jack & Jill Quilt

Is based on a simple-to-cut checkerboard pattern, this single bed quilt features pure cotton fabrics in a myriad of spot designs. The fresh approach is reflected in the symmetry of the design with its diagonal placement of squares. Equally, you could throw caution to the wind and combine the coloured squares in a random pattern for a completely different effect. See below to find out how you can purchase this smart quilt kit – in either blue or pink colourways – with full instructions and all fabric for quilt top, backing and binding.

The Autumn Harvest Quilt

Or Click here to purchase the Autumn Harvest Quilt Kit.

The arresting colour scheme of this unusual quilt belies the simplicity of its construction. Simple squares and rectangles are stitched into the one block, repeated throughout. Variations on the theme? Always! Change the orientation of some of the blocks and you’ll get a completely different look. You could also make a smaller quilt and use the remaining blocks for pillowcases. The kit includes all the fabrics needed to cut and assemble the quilt top including the binding (excludes batting and backing fabric). The quilt measures 243 x 294cm which is a very generous fit for a queen or king size bed. You get the complete step-by-step instructions and, as there is no tricky piecing, this is a project suitable for beginners and seasoned patchworkers alike.
