    Hobbysew Figtree is thrilled to have Alison Cole, author, designer of stumpwork and goldwork embroidery designs is going to be joining us for a 2 day workshop in April! She will travel up from Melbourne to teach her stunning "Golden Jet" design which is a Jacobean floral style Goldwork design worked in Gold and Black on a background of Old Gold Thai Silk. The piece uses English gilt threads and purls, black Au Ver a Soie silk and black Swarovski crystals. This project suits beginners to the more advanced wanting to hone their techniques! This is a very special opportunity and may not be able to be offered again. There are limited spaces in this workshop and bookings are essential!

    In this 5 hours workshop Natalia will demonstrate technique of glass/ceramic painting, technique of applying outliner on the surface, as well as mixing different mediums and then Natalia will guide you as you make your very own exciting and unique painted tiled artwork that you'll be proud to hang on your wall.  To begin you will learn about glass and ceramics painting in general and materials and techniques which can be used to achieve various results. Then using stencils, which will be provided, you will create your own "pazzle" of 4 different designs and colours that you like and transfer this pattern on 4 ceramic tiles 15 x 15 cm using outliner and special paints. The finished artwork will consist of 4 painted tiles set in a 30 x 30 cm white frame. What you will learn: - The use of various materials and techniques in ceramic and glass painting. - How to work with glass and ceramic paints and other mediums. - The skills you need to continue to create your own gorgeous artworks at home - All materials are provided.     In this workshop you will learn the ways to create exceptional fluid paintings using household items you may find in your garage, regular acrylic paints and alternative painting mediums.     Starting the workshop you will be introduced to the unique materials and products used throughout the session. A thorougher explanation of pouring styles and effects will conducted by an experienced Artist followed by demonstrations of those effects and pouring styles. A complementary booklet will be handed out with step by step instructions to create the perfect consistency for your fluid artwork. Students will paint three canvases during the workshop all to take home at the end of the day or to collect when dry. The result is breath taking, unique artworks that are both artistically striking and finished with a high level of quality!     Belinda from local resin jewellery brand Marbelle Design will teach you an array of beginner skills that will give you a taste of making your own resin jewellery in this 3 hour intensive workshop. Belinda has been leading resin jewellery workshops since 2015 throughout the Illawarra. She has exhibited her designs at The Scarborough Art Show and Project Contemporary ArtSpace. Belinda will explain basic techniques of mixing colour pigments and pouring resin into moulds, as well as finishing processes to sand your creations and how to attach findings to your earrings or pendant. Participants will go home with at least 2 pairs of earrings or pendants and coordinating bangle or ring using Belinda’s extensive personal collection of resin moulds. Whats included: Everything you need to make your own unique resin pieces (choice of rings, earrings or pendants) including Resin Moulds Pigments Gloves, sandpaper, mixing cups, mixing sticks. Basic Jewellery Findings Glue Notes to take home with all the information from the class! Bring your creative self, and an apron. Resin and pigment will damage clothing so its advised to wear old clothing. As we are working with chemicals, this workshop is not recommended for pregnant women and attendees under 16 years of age.

    Learn kantha embroidery and make a tote bag with artist, Michele Elliot Join textile artist, Michele Elliot for some slow stitching and a simple tote bag making session. Over two Saturdays, Michele will guide you through the simple technique of kantha style embroidery. It is an easy stitch to learn, and a great introduction for beginners. Kantha is a traditional type of embroidery originating in West Bengal, Odisha and Bangladesh and most often used for repair work as well as decorative embellishments in quilts and homeware. In recent years, it has become part of the language of contemporary textiles and embroidery. The first session covers an introduction and a patch or pocket for your tote bag. In the second session, you will assemble and complete your tote bag. Michele’s workshops are small in number so as to give time for individual attention. and are suitable for all levels. No sewing experience is necessary.

    In this workshop you will learn all the theory and technical skills required to create a large scale acrylic pour. Students will be taught the process, unique technique and science behind the exciting cutting edge 'free flow’ acrylic medium. In a fun, supportive and creative environment students will learn to vibrantly express themselves in the abstract realm. Key compositional skills such as the use of colour, balance, positive and negative space are taught to students, under the experienced guide of a professional Artist. The workshop will start with an introduction to the medium covering the painting basics, composition and colour theory, accompanied by an information booklet. After the introduction, a series of demonstrations will be conducted explaining step by step the practical techniques required to create each unique effect. The effects include, creating cells, blowing, tilting, dipping, dirty pours and blow torching. All painting techniques are explained in the booklet for students to take home. Students will paint two canvases during the workshop, one small size practice canvas and one large 50cm round canvas. Advanced theory in pigment weights, densities and the importance of transparencies are explained. In this workshop a student will learn how to troubleshoot their pours and learn the fine points of creating cells and control in their work. The result is breathtaking, unique artworks that are both artistically striking and finished with a high level of quality! All materials are included in the price of the workshop, these include: Free Flow Acrylic Paint (Atelier Brand over 20+ Colours) Pouring Medium (Professional Grade) 1x Round MDF Panel 20cm 1x Round Canvas 50cm Silicone Oil Glitter Brushes Palettes The Workshop has a capacity of 10 students with an experienced teacher to ensure a high level of attention to detail and instruction. Once your artwork is completed it requires a 72 hour drying time, work can be collected from the store.

    Class:  Resin Art Homewares Workshop - With Pretty Burd

    Join us for one of our exciting hands-on and creative Resin workshops. You will be guided through the process in a hands-on experience and create your very own resin homewares set. In this workshop you will add glossy and vibrant resin designs to create a personalised 6 piece homewares set. This set includes, a set of 4 coasters, a cheeseboard paddle, and an oval tray all made from acacia wood. Enjoy the contrast of wood grain and resin magic! You will learn the skills and safety for mixing and using resin. We use only the safest resin for this range, ensuring that your homewares are safe to use for serving delicious treats. You will also learn how to prepare and finish these surfaces to ensure the best quality product. Your finished pieces will require a drying period of 24hours so will need to be collected after this time from the studio. Board shapes may vary depending on availability. The cost is $230 and spaces are limited. Please note: We do not recommend this workshop to pregnant women as chemicals in the form of resins are used.

    Come join Sky in this three-hour weaving experience where you make your own woven wall hanging. Using an array of materials including Hobby Sew’s beautiful yarns, Sky will teach you the technical elements of weaving that can be used to create a variety of looks. Not only do you get to play and experiment with different materials but you will weave on Sky's 'own designed' bamboo weaving loom and tools. These are yours to keep so you can continue your weaving journey with plenty of post class support. Sky also generously shares her studio tips and techniques that are unique to her practice developed over years of looming.
