Contemporary Australian fabric design “Flowering Gum” of small birds and gum tree blossoms in two colourways: red/brown on beige background and red/beige on chocolate background. These daintily designed fabrics with high contrast colours tend to give a soft, country look to quilts in keeping with an Australiana theme.
Cheerful and fun! No quilt should ever leave the hands of its loving creator without the addition of a quilt tag. Sew Easy has a new range of quilt tags in lots of different styles and motifs to suit all types of quilts. Each tag has space to write or embroider a personalised name before being attached to a finished quilt. They can also be used to commemorate other craft projects you have made.
This is your chance to have a go at this most famous of all quilts which hangs in the Bennington Museum, VT. You’ll need to buy the book, which is available in store, and Julie holds ongoing classes on all the different techniques used in each block. Jane A Stickle originally made it in fabrics from the Civil War era but why try it out using your own contemporary colour and pattern choices. Just phone Kings Park on 9621 4000 to join the class.
A Sudoku puzzle is a grid made up of 9 rows and 9 columns. The grid is divided into groups of nine boxes, giving a total of 9 blocks. Each block must have the same 9 numbers but the catch is that no row, column or block can have the same number repeated. If you like a puzzle, why not sign up for Rose Frezza’s class at Hobbysew Figtree to make your very own Sudoku quilt. Lots of fun to make and puzzle over afterwards. Phone Hobbysew Figtree on 4229 8188 for more details of this class.
Here’s a sneak peak of a new sample in the making at Hobbysew Belconnen.
Using the bright and fun selection of Nancy Halvorsen’s ‘Christmas Favourites’ range of fabric and the book of the same name, this gorgeous quilt has been fun to put together. The shapes are large and easy to trace and the result is quick and colourful. Each block can be used as a project on it’s own or get started on the whole quilt and have it ready to hang for Christmas.
The Mad March Mini Quilt Competition is up and running at Hobbysew stores. The theme for Hobbysew Belconnen is ‘Autumn in Our Town‘.
